Non SMC Element 4 Homolog A (NSMCE4A)

Hu et al. (2005) identified NSMCE4A, which is the human ortholog of S. cerevisiae Nse4. The deduced 385-amino acid protein shares 22% similarity with yeast Nse4. Hu et al. (2005) showed that S. cerevisiae Nse4 mutants exhibited growth arrest occurring after S phase and prior to mitosis in a Rad24 checkpoint-dependent manner, and displayed genome instability and sensitivity to DNA damage agents.

Hu et al. (2005) showed that Nse4 is a non-SMC element of the Smc5/Smc6 DNA repair complex.This isoform has been chosen as the 'canonical' sequence. All positional information in this entry refers to it. This is also the sequence that appears in the downloadable versions of the entry.
