Nucleolar Complex Associated 4 Homolog (NOC4L)
By searching databases for sequences similar to yeast Noc4, Milkereit et al. (2003) identified human NOC4L, which they called NOC4. The deduced 516-amino acid protein contains a C-terminal NOC domain found in proteins involved in transport and maturation of ribosomal 60S subunits.
Milkereit et al. (2003) showed that yeast Noc4 mutants were impaired in processing of 18S rRNA, the rRNA component of the 40S subunit, from pre-rRNA. RNA biogenesis was inhibited at early cleavage sites.Hartz (2009) mapped the NOC4L gene to chromosome 12q24.33 based on an alignment of the NOC4L sequence with the genomic sequence.
