Nucleosome Assembly Protein 1 Like Protein 3 (NAP1L3)
NAP1L3 encodes a member of the nucleosome assembly protein (NAP) family. It is linked closely to a region of genes responsible for several X-linked mental retardation syndromes. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene, but the biological validityNAP1L3 of the variants has not been determined.
This 2.6-kb cDNA clone, designated NAP1L3, encodes a 506-amino acid protein. Its predicted amino acid sequence shows 46% identity and 65% similarity to that of NAP1L. Northern blot analysis revealed strong expression of a 3-kb transcript in human adult brain, weak expression in heart, and no detectable transcript in other tissues tested.
