Olfactory Receptor 51E1 (OR51E1)
OR51E1 is a member of the olfactory receptor subfamily of G protein-coupled receptors. The deduced 318-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 34 kD and is a member of the olfactory receptor subfamily of GPCRs. OR51E1 contains 7 transmembrane domains and shares 57% amino acid identity with OR51E2 and 92 to 88% identity with gorilla, mouse, and rat homologs. Northern blot analysis of human tissues detected a 3.2-kb transcript in prostate only. Dot-blot analysis of 88 human tissues confirmed prostate tissue-specific expression, whereas quantitative real-time PCR detected OR51E2 expression in additional tissues including placenta, skeletal muscle, heart, ovary, and testis. FACS analysis of PC-3 prostate cancer cells expressing OR51E1 localized the protein to the plasma membrane.
