PTPRF Interacting Protein Binding Protein 2 (PPFIBP2)
PPFIBP2 belongs to the liprin-beta family. Members of the LAR family are transmembrane protein-tyrosine phosphatases (PTPases). The LIP1 protein (PPFIA1 has been shown to bind to the LAR membrane-distal D2 PTPase domain. Serra-Pages et al. (1998) carried out a yeast interaction trap screen using LIP1 as bait. They isolated a partial human fibroblast cDNA encoding a protein they called LIP-related protein (liprin)-beta-2. The predicted 783-amino acid polypeptide shares 51% sequence identity with liprin-beta-1. Liprins are multivalent proteins that form complex structures that act as scaffolds for the recruitment and anchoring of LAR family PTPases. Northern blot analysis revealed that the liprin-beta-2 gene is expressed broadly as a 3.9-kb mRNA. A second 5.1-kb transcript was observed in heart and skeletal muscle.
