Peptidase, Mitochondrial Processing Alpha (PMPCa)
By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated KG-1 myeloid leukemia cell line cDNA library, Nagase et al. (1995) cloned PMPCA, which they designated KIAA0123. The deduced 528-amino acid protein contains an insulinase (IDE) motif and shares 85.5% identity with the rat mitochondrial processing protease. Northern blot analysis detected PMPCA expression in all tissues and cell lines examined, with highest expression in HeLa cells, heart, skeletal muscle, and testis.
Hartz (2009) mapped the PMPCA gene to chromosome 9q34.3 based on an alignment of the PMPCA sequence with the genomic sequence (GRCh37). The PMPCA gene overlaps the INPP5E gene and is transcribed in the opposite direction.
