Peroxisomal Biogenesis Factor 5 Like Protein (PEX5L)

PEX5R; PXR2; PEX2-related protein; PEX5-like protein; Peroxin-5-related protein; Tetratricopeptide repeat-containing Rab8b-interacting protein

Peroxisomal Biogenesis Factor 5 Like Protein (PEX5L)
The brain-derived cDNAs coded for 624- and 626-amino acid proteins with 39.8% identity with PEX5. The shorter 344-amino acid protein was derived from liver cDNA and shares 54% amino acid identity with C-terminal PEX5. All 3 isoforms contain a tetratricopeptide repeat motif (TPR).
Northern blot analysis detected 8.3-kb, 4.3-kb, and 3.3-kb transcripts with highest expression in human brain and weaker signal in pancreas. RNA dot-blot analysis of 50 human tissues confirmed expression in all parts of the brain with lower expression in testis and pituitary. Immunofluorescence studies localized PEX5L to the cytoplasm in mouse Pex5 -/- fibroblasts and Chinese hamster ovary cells.
