Phorbol-12-Myristate-13-Acetate Induced Protein 1 (PMAIP1)

APR; NOXA; Immediate-early-response protein APR

Phorbol-12-Myristate-13-Acetate Induced Protein 1 (PMAIP1)
Expression of this gene was also detected in fresh peripheral blood mononuclear cells of several ATL patients, but not in those of healthy donors. The cDNA is 1,897 base pairs in length, with a short open reading frame encoding a polypeptide of 54 amino acids. Exposure of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells, a T-cell lymphoma cell line (Jurkat), and quiescent human embryonic lung cells to phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA) resulted in rapid, transient expression of 2.0-kb mRNA of the gene. This induction was not inhibited by cyclohexamide.Human NOXA, or APR, encodes 54 amino acids, containing only 1 BH3 motif at amino acids 29 to 37. This motif probably corresponds to the B motif of mouse Noxa, and the human NOXA gene lacks the DNA segment corresponding to the second exon of mouse Noxa.
