Phosducin Like Protein 2 (PDCL2)

PDCL2 encodes a member of the phosducin-like protein family and is a putative modulator of heterotrimeric G proteins. The protein shares extensive amino acid sequence homology with phosducin. Members of the phosducin-like protein family have been shown to bind to the beta-gamma subunits of G proteins.The deduced 240-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 27.8 kD. Northern blot and RNA dot blot analyses detected Pdcl2 expression in testis only. Three Pdcl2 transcripts that used different polyadenylation signals showed variable expression during germ cell maturation. In situ hybridization and immunofluorescence analysis showed stage-specific expression of Pdcl2, with high levels of RNA and protein in pachytene spermatocytes and round spermatids.
