Phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate-5-Kinase Like Protein 1 (PIP5KL1)

PIP5KL1 is a phosphoinositide kinase-like protein that lacks intrinsic lipid kinase activity but associates with type I PIPKs and may play a role in localization of PIPK activity.

The deduced 395-amino acid mouse Pipkh protein has a calculated molecular mass of about 45.3 kD. Northern blot analysis of mouse tissues detected highest expression in brain and testis and very low expression in heart, spleen, lung, liver, skeletal muscle and kidney.Pip5kl1 did not bind phospholipids in vitro. They showed that NIH-3T3 cells overexpressing Pip5kl1 displayed localization of a PI(3,4,5)P3 marker protein to large cytoplasmic vesicular structures and increased formation of actin comets and foci. PIP5KL1 acts as a scaffold to localize and regulate type I PIPKs nd the synthesis of PI(3,4,5)P3.
