Pleckstrin Homology Like Domain Family A, Member 1 (PHLDA1)
PHLDA1 encodes an evolutionarily conserved proline-histidine rich nuclear protein. The encoded protein may play an important role in the anti-apoptotic effects of insulin-like growth factor-1.Northern blot analysis indicated that the PHLDA1 gene is expressed as a 6.6-kb transcript. Overexpression of TDAG51 elicited significant changes in cell morphology, decreased cell adhesion, and promoted detachment-mediated apoptosis. Tdag51 expression was increased and correlated with apoptosis in atherosclerotic lesions from Apoe-null mice fed hyperhomocysteinemic diets. The authors concluded that TDAG51 is induced by homocysteine, promotes detachment-mediated apoptosis, and contributes to the development of atherosclerosis in hyperhomocysteinemia.
