Polymerase DNA Directed Epsilon 3 (POLe3)

POLE3 is a histone-fold protein that interacts with other histone-fold proteins to bind DNA in a sequence-independent manner. These histone-fold protein dimers combine within larger enzymatic complexes for DNA transcription, replication, and packaging.

POLE3 contains a histone-fold motif that resembles an extended helix-strand-helix structure identified in core histone proteins as a dimerization domain. The histone-fold motif is followed by an acidic region. The histone-fold motif and acidic stretch of POLE3 are most similar to those of CBFA (NFYB). POLE3 shares 33% amino acid identity with the DPB4 subunit of S. cerevisiae polymerase epsilon.
