Popeye Domain Containing Protein 2 (POPDC2)

POP2 encodes a deduced 367-amino acid, 41-kD protein containing 3 predicted N-terminal transmembrane helices. POP2 shares 79% sequence identity with mouse Pop2. It also shares sequence similarity with the related family members BVES and POP3.

Northern blot analysis detected POP2 transcripts of 8.0, 3.8, and 2.4 kb in human tissues. Expression was prominent in adult human heart and was also detected in skeletal muscle. In situ hybridization demonstrated POP2 expression in the developing mouse heart. Expression was first detectable at embryonic day 7.5 in the cardiac crescent and was later detected in the entire heart with the exception of the outflow tract.
