Potassium Channel Subfamily V, Member 1 (KCNV1)

HNKA; KCNB3; Kv8.1; Voltage-gated potassium channel subunit Kv8.1; Neuronal potassium channel alpha subunit HNKA

Potassium Channel Subfamily V, Member 1 (KCNV1)
KCNV1 is a brain-specific regulatory potassium channel subunit that modulates the activity of Shab (see KCNB1) and Shaw outward rectifier potassium channels.
The deduced 504-amino acid protein contains 6 putative transmembrane segments and a conserved pore-forming region. It has several putative phosphorylation sites in its cytoplasmic N- and C-terminal domains. Northern blot analysis detected transcripts of 3.3 and 2.9 kb expressed only in brain. In situ hybridization showed expression mainly in layers II, IV and VI of the cerebral cortex, in CA1 to CA4 pyramidal cell layer and granule cells of the dentate gyrus, in the granule cell layer and Purkinje cell layer of the cerebellum, and throughout the hippocampus.
