Potassium Voltage Gated Channel Shaker Related Subfamily Beta 3 (KCNAb3)
KCNAb3 encodes a member of the potassium channel, voltage-gated, shaker-related subfamily. This member is one of the beta subunits, which are auxiliary proteins associating with functional Kv-alpha subunits. This member and the KCNA5 gene product assemble into a heteromultimeric A-type channel that inactivates completely and is significantly faster than other A-type Kv channels.
The predicted 404-amino acid human Kv-beta-3.1 protein shares 92%, 75%, and 72% sequence identity with rat Kv-beta-3, human Kv-beta-2 (KCNA2B), and human Kv-beta-1, respectively. The human beta subunits are most divergent in their N-terminal regions, although like Kv-beta-1, Kv-beta-3.1 contains an N-terminal inactivating domain.
