Prenylcysteine Oxidase 1 Like Protein (PCYOX1L)

Prenylcysteine Oxidase 1 Like Protein (PCYOX1L)
PCYOX1L, Belongs to the prenylcysteine oxidase family. This entry represents a characterised prenylcysteine oxidase (originally thought to be a prenylcysteine lyase) and homologues that are predicted to have the same function. The human enzyme is part of the lysosome and functions in the degradation of prenylated proteins, cleaving the thioether bond of prenyl-L-cysteines, such as farnesylcysteine and geranylgeranylcysteine.
This enzyme belongs to the family of oxidoreductases, specifically those acting on a sulfur group of donors with oxygen as acceptor. The systematic name of this enzyme class is S-prenyl-L-cysteine:oxygen oxidoreductase. This enzyme is also called prenylcysteine lyase.
