Protocadherin Alpha 11 (PCDHa11)
PCDHA11 is 1 of 15 tandemly arranged genes within the PCDHA gene cluster on chromosome 5q31. The 15 PCDHA genes function as 'variable' exons that are individually spliced to a downstream constant region to form distinct PCDHA transcripts. These transcripts encode cadherin-like cell surface proteins that are expressed in neurons and are present at synaptic junctions (Ribich et al., 2006). For further information on the PCDHA genes.
By PCR of a brain cDNA library, Wu and Maniatis (1999) cloned full-length PCDHA11.
By genomic sequence analysis, Wu et al. (2001) mapped the PCDHA11 gene to chromosome 5q31. They localized the mouse PCDHA genes to chromosome 18c.
