RAB, Member Of RAS Oncogene Family Like Protein 2B (RABL2B)

The RABL2B protein is a member of the RAB gene family which belongs to the RAS GTPase superfamily. RABL2B is located within a subtelomeric region of 22q13.3. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding several different isoforms have been found for this gene. The RABL2 genes share structural similarity to the RAB family of GTPases but, unlike typical RAB proteins that contain 5 conserved domains (G1 to G5), RABL2 proteins lack the G5 domain that is 1 of the 2 guanine base-binding motifs. The RABL2 proteins also lack the C-terminal cysteine-rich domain important for the binding of RABs to vesicle membranes, and are therefore likely to have a different function from other RAB proteins. RABL2A and RABL2B proteins have 228 amino acids each and differ from each other by 3 conserved amino acid changes.
