RAN Binding Protein 9 (RANBP9)
RANBP9encodes a protein that binds RAN, a small GTP binding protein belonging to the RAS superfamily that is essential for the translocation of RNA and proteins through the nuclear pore complex. The protein encoded by this gene has also been shown to interact with several other proteins, including met proto-oncogene, homeodomain interacting protein kinase 2, androgen receptor, and cyclin-dependent kinase 11.
The cDNA is 2.8 kb in length and encodes a protein of 500 amino acid residues. Mouse, hamster, and human RANBPM are identical. The C-terminal half of the S. cerevisiae gene YGL227w is 30% identical to RANBPM. Immunoblotting analysis using antibodies against RANBPM revealed that RANBPM was localized within the centrosome throughout the cell cycle.
