RNA polymerase-associated protein RTF1 homolog

RTF1, Paf1/RNA Polymerase II Complex Component, Homolog (RTF1)
By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated immature myeloid cell line cDNA library, Nagase et al. (1996) cloned RTF1, which they designated KIAA0252. Northern blot analysis detected high expression in skeletal muscle and moderate expression in all other tissues and cell lines examined.
By searching databases for homologs of yeast Rtf1, Warner et al. (2007) identified human RTF1. The deduced protein contains 585 amino acids. Two amino acid clusters, including 26 invariant residues, are highly conserved in human, yeast, and nematode RTF1.Warner et al. (2007) showed that yeast Rtf1 is a component of the Paf1 complex that regulates gene expression by directing cotranscriptional histone modification.
