Radial Spoke Head Like Protein 1 (RSHL1)
RSHL1 is similar to a sea urchin radial spoke head protein. Radial spoke protein complexes form part of the axoneme of eukaryotic flagella and are located between the axoneme's outer ring of doublet microtubules and central pair of microtubules. In Chlamydomonas, radial spoke proteins are thought to regulate the activity of dynein and the symmetry of flagellar bending patterns.
The full-length mouse cDNA predicts a protein of 708 amino acids with a calculated molecular mass of 80.2 kD. The human and mouse proteins share 93% similarity over 418 overlapping residues. RSHL1 also shares strong homology with the sea urchin radial spokehead p63 and with flagellar radial spoke proteins 4 and 6 of Chlamydomonas reinhardti.
