Ral GTPase Activating Protein Alpha 1 (RALGAPa1)

GARNL1; GRIPE; TULIP1; p240; GTPase Activating Rap/RanGAP Domain-Like 1; Tuberin-Like Protein 1; GAP-Related Interacting Protein To E12

Ral GTPase Activating Protein Alpha 1 (RALGAPa1)
The deduced protein shares 93.5% identity with rat Tulip1 over 230 amino acids. GARNL1 expression was highest in thalamus, and little to no expression was found in spleen. The deduced protein contains a putative leucine zipper and a C-terminal Rap/Ran-GAP domain. Gripe and E12 mRNA levels were both high during embryogenesis, but only Gripe mRNA levels remained high in adult brain, particularly in neurons of the cortex and hippocampus. Like the human gene, mouse Garnl1 has a splicing variant lacking exon 40, but it also has an alternative microexon (exon 40-prime) with a complex splicing pattern. The transcript containing exon 40 encodes a deduced 2,035-amino acid protein that shares 94.9% identity with the corresponding human protein.
