Ras Association Domain Containing Protein 2 (RASSF2)

Ras Association Domain Containing Protein 2 (RASSF2)
RASSF2 encodes a protein that contains a Ras association domain. Similar to its cattle and sheep counterparts, this gene is located near the prion gene. Two alternatively spliced transcripts encoding the same isoform have been reported.RASSF2 inhibited cell growth in a transfected lung carcinoma cell line, and the inhibition was enhanced by coexpression of activated KRAS. The 3-prime UTR of bovine Rassf2 is significantly shorter than that of human RASSF2, but both have a relatively low abundance of repetitive elements and 2 blocks that share 80% and 82% nucleotide identity. The open reading frame of the longer bovine variant shares 95% amino acid similarity with the human RASSF2 protein, and both contain 2 putative phosphorylation sites, a glycosylation site, and a nuclear localization signal.
