RecQ Protein Like Protein 5 (RECQL5)

RECQL5 encodes a protein of 410 amino acids. The RECQL5 helicase has a small molecular weight of 46 kD, similar to that of the human RECQ1 helicase. Both RECQL4 and RECQL5 have helicase domains that contain 7 consensus motifs in the middle of the molecules. Northern blot analysis detected RECQL5 expression in almost all tissues tested, with notably strong expression in pancreas and testis. RECQ1 has a similar expression profile.human RECQL5 bound the recombinase RAD51 and inhibited RAD51-mediated D-loop formation. Biochemical assays and electron microscopy showed that RECQL5 displaced RAD51 from single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) in a reaction that required ATP hydrolysis and the ssDNA-binding protein RPA (RPA1).
