DCR1L2 gene contains 4 exons and that the promoter region contains a TATAAA box.Northern blot analysis revealed ubiquitous expression of 3.2-, 5.2-, and 7.5-kb DSCR1L2 transcripts, with highest expression in heart, skeletal muscle, kidney, liver, and peripheral blood leukocytes, and lower levels in brain, thymus, spleen, small intestine, placenta, and lung.
The deduced 115-amino acid DSCR1L2-E2E5 protein is identical to DSCR1L2 for the first 66 amino acids, but out-of-frame splicing creates a unique C-terminal half. RT-PCR detected DSCR1L2-E2E5 expression in heart, skeletal muscle, and brain. In heart, the ratio of DSCR1L2 to DSCR1L2-E2E5 was 3.5 to 1.Domain analysis revealed that the region encoded by DSCR1L2 exon 2 mediated the interaction.
