Retinoblastoma Binding Protein 6 (RBBP6)
The retinoblastoma tumor suppressor (pRB) protein binds with many other proteins.Cell cycle-dependent phosphorylation regulates the activity of pRB. Mather et al. (2005) stated that the RBBP6 protein reported by Sakai et al. (1995) is a truncated homolog of Drosophila Snama. They reported that there are 2 human RBBP6 transcripts: a short form encoding a 118-amino acid protein, and a long form encoding a 1,792-amino acid protein. The long protein contains an N-terminal ubiquitin-like domain, which Mather et al. (2005) called a DWNN (domain with no name) domain, followed by a CCHC zinc finger motif, a cysteine-rich RING finger-like motif, and 2 C-terminal lysine-rich regions. The DWNN domain is highly conserved through eukaryotes, but is absent in prokaryotes.
