Rho GTPase Activating Protein 27 (ARHGAP27)

Rho-like small GTPases are involved in many cellular processes, and they are inactive in the GDP-bound state and active in the GTP-bound state. GTPase-activating proteins, such as ARHGAP27, inhibit Rho-like proteins by stimulating their intrinsic GTPase activity.Both deduced proteins contain an N-terminal SH3 domain, followed by 3 WW motifs, a proline-rich region, a pleckstrin-homology (PH) domain, and a C-terminal RhoGAP domain. Northern blot analysis of murine tissues detected highest expression in kidney, lung, small intestine, and thymus.

The deduced proteins differed at their N-terminal ends. The full-length protein contains 889 amino acids, and the N-terminally truncated protein contains 548 amino acids.
