Ribosomal RNA Processing 15 Homolog (RRP15)

CGI-115; RRP15-like protein

Ribosomal RNA Processing 15 Homolog (RRP15)
The RRP15 gene encodes a protein that, in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, is a component of early pre-60S ribosomal particles which is required for the maturation of large subunit ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) .
Rrp15 interacts with many nonribosomal proteins implicated in biogenesis of the 60S large subunit. Rrp15 also interacts with yeast protein kinase CK2 subunit Cka1 (CSNK2A1).Depletion of Rrp15 inhibited growth, reduced levels of 25S and 18S rRNAs, decreased levels of 5.8S and 5S mature rRNAs, and other changes consistent with a delay in early pre-rRNA processing steps. S. cerevisiae Rrp15 is a component of pre-60S ribosomal particles, and primarily associates with the 27S pre-RNAs of the large ribosome subunit.
