Ring Finger Protein 8 (RNF8)

E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase RNF8

Ring Finger Protein 8 (RNF8)
E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase RNF8 contains a RING finger motif and an FHA domain. This protein has been shown to interact with several class II ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes (E2), including UBE2E1/UBCH6, UBE2E2, and UBE2E3, and may act as a ubiquitin ligase (E3) in the ubiquitination of certain nuclear proteins. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. The deduced 485-amino acid protein contains a C3HC4-type zinc finger signature, suggesting that it is involved in nucleic acid management. RT-PCR analysis detected moderate RNF8 expression in brain, testis, and ovary, with little to no expression in all other tissues examined. In vitro translation resulted in a protein with an apparent molecular mass of 62 kD by SDS-PAGE.
