S-Phase Cyclin A Associated Protein In The ER (SCAPER)
The deduced 1,399-amino acid (158 kD) protein showed no significant similarity to known human proteins, but had a putative C2H2-type zinc finger motif, a putative transmembrane domain, an ER retrieval signal at the C terminus, 4 coiled-coil domains, 6 potential RXL motifs that might confer binding to cyclins, and 6 consensus Cdk phosphorylation sites.
Tsang et al. (2007) showed that SCAPER is a perinuclear protein found in the nucleus but predominantly in the ER. Northern blot analysis detected ubiquitous expression of SCAPER in all human tissues tested, with highest expression in testis. A SCAPER antibody demonstrated that it was present in all cell lines tested.
