SHANK Associated RH Domain Interactor (SHARPIN)
By microarray analysis, followed by screening a mouse cDNA brain library, EST database analysis, and RT-PCR of human stomach RNA, Daigo et al. (2003) cloned human and mouse SHARPIN, which they called SIPL1. The deduced 345-amino acid human protein has a potential alternative splice isoform of 156 amino acids and shares 73% and 69% amino acid identity with its mouse and rat homologs, respectively. They share a C-terminal conserved zinc finger domain common in Ran-binding proteins.
Northern blot analysis detected 1.7- and 2.0-kb transcripts in all human tissues examined with predominant expression in skeletal muscle, placenta, stomach, and small intestine.
