SH3 Containing GRB2 Like Protein 3 Interacting Protein 1 (SGIP1)

Endophilin-3-interacting protein

SH3 Containing GRB2 Like Protein 3 Interacting Protein 1 (SGIP1)
SGIP1 functions as an endocytic protein that affects signaling by receptors in neuronal systems involved in energy homeostasis via its interaction with endophilins .
By database analysis, they identified human SGIP1, which encodes 828-amino acid protein that shares 94% amino acid identity with the P. obesus Sgip1. The central portion of SGIP1 is proline-rich and contains numerous potential SH3- and WW-domain binding sites. RT-PCR of P. obesus tissues detected strong expression in brain, particularly in cerebellum, cortex, and midbrain, and very weak expression in spleen, adipose tissues, and kidney. Northern blot analysis of human tissues detected a 6-kb band in brain only.
