SIX Homeobox Protein 4 (SIX4)

AREC3; Sine Oculis Homeobox Homolog 4

SIX Homeobox Protein 4 (SIX4)
SIX4 encodes a member of the homeobox family, subfamily SIX. The drosophila homolog is a nuclear homeoprotein required for eye development. Studies in mouse show that this gene product functions as a transcription factor, and may have a role in the differentiation or maturation of neuronal cells. The genomic coordinates used for the transcript record were based on transcript alignments.
Human SIX4 encodes a 781-amino acid protein that shares 90% overall sequence identity and 100% identity within the Six domain and the homeodomain with its mouse counterpart, indicating that the proteins share the same DNA-binding specificity.
