SLIT And NTRK Like Protein 2 (SLITRK2)
SLITRK2 encodes an integral membrane protein that contains two N-terminal leucine-rich repeats domains and contains C-terminal regions similar to neurotrophin receptors. The encoded protein may play a role in modulating neurite activity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described. The deduced Slitrk2 protein contains an N-terminal signal peptide, followed by 2 LRR domains, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic domain with 4 putative tyrosine phosphorylation sites. Each LRR domain is flanked by cysteine-rich regions. Northern blot analysis of several mouse tissues detected high Slitrk2 expression only in brain. In a rat pheochromocytoma cell line, Slitrk2 localized to the trans-Golgi network and the cell periphery.
