SRR1 Domain Containing Protein (SRRD)

HC/HCC; SRR1L; Hepatocellular Carcinoma Complicating Hemochromatosis; SRR1-like protein

SRR1 Domain Containing Protein (SRRD)
Hemochromatosis (HC) is an iron storage disorder caused by an inherited defect in iron metabolism. Iron accumulates in the tissues, particularly in hepatocytes, leading to cellular toxicity and liver fibrosis and eventually to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
HC/HCC was strongly expressed in the liver of a patient with HC and in tumor tissue from a subject with hepatocellular carcinoma complicating HC. The HC/HCC cDNA, encoding a 9.5-kb transcript, consists of 342 amino acid residues.the message of this gene is present at very low levels in normal human liver, and is also expressed in lymphocytes of HC patients and in MOLT-4 human T-lymphoid cells.
