Scavenger Receptor Class B Member 2 (SCARB2)

CD36L2; LIMP2; LIMPII; 85 kDa lysosomal membrane sialoglycoprotein; Collagen Type I Receptor,Thrombospondin Receptor-Like 2; Lysosomal Integral Membrane Protein II

Scavenger Receptor Class B Member 2 (SCARB2)
SCARB2 is a type III glycoprotein that is located primarily in limiting membranes of lysosomes and endosomes. Studies of the similar protein in mice and rat suggested that this protein may participate in membrane transportation and the reorganization of endosomal/lysosomal compartment. Deficiency of the similar protein in mice was reported to impair cell membrane transport processes and cause pelvic junction obstruction, deafness, and peripheral neuropathy. The open reading frame predicted an amino acid sequence of 478 amino acids, 85% identical to that of rat LIMPII and 100% identical to that of the human glycoprotein LGP85 sequence published by Fujita et al. (1992). Northern blot analysis revealed that CD36L2 is expressed as transcripts of 2.2 and 4.5 kb in a variety of human cell lines.
