Scribbled Homolog (SCRIB)

Deficiency in Scrib impairs many aspects of cell polarity and cell movement. Scrib belongs to a protein complex containing betaPIX, an exchange factor for Rac/Cdc42, and GIT1, a GTPase activating protein for ARF6 implicated in receptor recycling and exocytosis.

SCRIB is a cytoplasmic multimodular scaffold protein targeted to epithelial adherens junctions and neuronal presynaptic compartments. SCRIB and its orthologs in vertebrates and invertebrates participate in cell polarization.The nucleotide sequence contains a central GAG repeat that occurs 19 times within a 36-triplet stretch, creating a glutamine-rich region in the deduced 1,551-amino acid protein.
