Secreted Ly6/uPAR Related Protein 1 (SLURP1)
SLURP1 is a member of the Ly6/uPAR family but lacks a GPI-anchoring signal sequence. It is thought that this secreted protein contains antitumor activity. Mutations in this gene have been associated with Mal de Meleda, a rare autosomal recessive skin disorder. This gene maps to the same chromosomal region as several members of the Ly6/uPAR family of glycoprotein receptors.
The Ly6/uPAR protein family can be divided into 2 subfamilies. One comprises glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored glycoprotein receptors with 10 cysteine residues. The other subfamily includes the secreted single-domain snake and frog cytotoxins, and its members generally possess only 8 cysteines and no GPI-anchoring signal sequence.
