Secretory Carrier Membrane Protein 3 (SCAMP3)
SCAMP3 product belongs to the SCAMP family of proteins which are secretory carrier membrane proteins. They function as carriers to the cell surface in post-golgi recycling pathways. Different family members are highly related products of distinct genes, and are usually expressed together. These findings suggest that the SCAMPs may function at the same site during vesicular transport rather than in separate pathways. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.SCAMP3 shares 57% and 56% overall sequence identity with SCAMP1 and SCAMP2, respectively, and 89% identity with the mouse homolog. The most divergent regions are in the N terminus. SCAMP3 encodes a deduced 347-amino acid protein with a calculated molecular mass of 38.3 kD.
