Serum/Glucocorticoid Regulated Kinase 3 (SGK3)

CISK; SGKL; Cytokine-independent survival kinase; Serum/glucocorticoid-regulated kinase-like; Serine/threonine-protein kinase Sgk3

Serum/Glucocorticoid Regulated Kinase 3 (SGK3)
Sgk3 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and encodes a phosphoprotein with a PX (phox homology) domain. The protein phosphorylates several target proteins and has a role in neutral amino acid transport and activation of potassium and chloride channels. SGKL contains the highly conserved catalytic structure ala262-pro263-glu264 in motif 8 and the conserved leu126 in motif 2, which transfers the phosphoryl group during phosphorylation. SGKL shares about 66% amino acid identity with human and rat SGK1. Northern blot analysis revealed a 4.4-kb transcript in all tissues examined. Expression was highest in lung, intermediate in liver, peripheral blood leukocytes, placenta, thymus, brain, kidney, pancreas, and colon, and low in heart, ovary, testis, prostate, small intestine, spleen, and skeletal muscle.
