Shroom Family, Member 4 (SHROOM4)

Like other SHROOM proteins, Shroom4 contains an N-terminal PDZ domain and a C-terminal ASD2 motif, as well as binding sites for EVH1 domains and PDZ domains. It also has a unique gln/glu-rich motif preceding the ASD2 domain that is conserved in human SHROOM4 but is absent in other SHROOM proteins. Shroom4 lacks the central ASD1 motif found in other SHROOM proteins.In brain, only the 9.0-kb transcript was detected, with strongest expression in medulla and weakest in cerebral cortex. Similarly, only the 9.0-kb transcript was detected in fetal tissues. Expression studies in mice at different embryonic stages showed slight KIAA1202 expression at embryonic day (E)8.5, increasing until E11.5 and remaining continuous thereafter, suggesting regulated expression during development.
