Single Minded Homolog 2 (SIM2)

BHLHE15; Class E basic helix-loop-helix protein 15

Single Minded Homolog 2 (SIM2)
SIM2 maps within the so-called Down syndrome chromosomal region. Based on the mapping position, its potential function as transcriptional repressor and similarity to Drosophila sim, it is proposed that SIM2 may contribute to some specific Down syndrome phenotypes
SIM gene is a candidate for involvement in certain dysmorphic features (particularly the facial and skull characteristics), abnormalities of brain development, and/or mental retardation of Down syndrome. no other gene product with involvement either in the development of the nervous or other system or in the regulation of gene expression had been identified and mapped in the Down syndrome critical region (DSCR, or DCR).
