Snail Homolog 3 (SNAI3)
SNAI3 is a member of the SNAIL gene family, named for the Drosophila snail gene, which plays roles in mesodermal formation during embryogenesis.
By database analysis using mouse Snai3 as query, Katoh and Katoh (2003) identified human SNAI3. The deduced 292-amino acid protein has an N-terminal SNAG domain and 5 C2H2-type zinc finger domains. SNAI3 shares 41.2% and 48.0% amino acid identity with SNAI1 and SNAI2, respectively. EST database analysis showed expression in human skin melanotic melanoma, pooled lung and spleen, lung epidermoid carcinoma, and germ cell tumor tissues.Katoh and Katoh (2003) determined that the SNAI3 gene contains at least 3 exons.
