P3; SLC10A3,Sodium/Bile Acid Cotransporter Family

Solute Carrier Family 10, Member 3 (SLC10A3)
Alcalay and Toniolo (1988) obtained a full-length SLC10A3 clone, which they called P3, from placenta and human teratocarcinoma cell cDNA libraries. The deduced protein contains 477 amino acids. Northern blot analysis detected variable expression of a 2.1-kb transcript in all cell lines examined. Southern blot analysis suggested that P3 is conserved from yeast to human.
In their review of the SLC10 family, Hagenbuch and Dawson (2004) stated that P3 has been categorized as a sodium-bile acid cotransporter and named SLC10A3 based on its similarity with SLC10A1 and SLC10A2. However, no verification of its transport function had been documented. EST database analysis suggested ubiquitous SLC10A3 expression.
