The deduced 520-amino acid protein, Slc22a17, contains 12 transmembrane domains. Immunoblot analysis revealed wide expression of a 60-kD band, as well as restricted expression in some tissues of a 30-kD band. RT-PCR and database analyses indicated that the smaller band represented a splice variant lacking the N-terminal 154 amino acids.
NGALR2 has an internal deletion of 57 nucleotides but is otherwise identical to the Ngalr1 splice variant. It contains 11 transmembrane domains.NGALR3 contains an internal deletion of 125 nucleotides that produces a frameshift. The deduced NGALR3 protein contains 207 amino acids, with a unique 32-amino acid C terminus, and has 4 potential transmembrane domains.
