Solute Carrier Family 25, Member 33 (SLC25A33)

SLC25A33 belongs to the SLC25 family of mitochondrial carrier proteins. BMSCMCP shares 28% identity with calcium-binding mitochondrial carrier protein Aralar (SLC25A12) and 28% identity with mitochondrial folate transporters . Northern blot analysis of human tissues detected abundant expression in testis and skeletal muscle, moderate expression in heart, brain, liver, kidney, prostate, colon, and peripheral blood leukocytes, but no expression in placenta, lung, pancreas, spleen, thymus, ovary, or small intestine.

PCR analysis detected BMSCMCP in most tumor cell lines examined as well as dendritic cells and BMSCs. Fluorescence-tagged BMSCMCP colocalized with a mitochondrial marker in a punctate cytoplasmic distribution and in pseudopodial protrusions.
