SLC25A40 belongs to the SLC25 family of mitochondrial carrier proteins.By searching databases for SLC25 family members, Haitina et al. (2006) identified SLC25A40. The deduced protein contains 341 amino acids. Quantitative real-time PCR detected variable expression of Slc25a40 in all rat tissues examined, with highest levels in cerebellum and brain coronal sections containing olfactory bulb, cerebral cortex, midbrain, pons, and cerebellum.
