Solute Carrier Family 26, Member 11 (SLC26A11)

Sodium-independent sulfate anion transporter

Solute Carrier Family 26, Member 11 (SLC26A11)
The deduced 606-amino acid protein contains 11 transmembrane domains and has an extracellular N terminus and an intracellular C terminus. It has 3 motifs characteristic of the SLC26 sulfate/anion exchanger family, a sulfate transporter signature, a sulfate transporter domain, and an STAS domain, and it has an N-glycosylation site in the putative extracellular loop between transmembrane domains 7 and 8. Epitope-tagged SLC26A11 was expressed in endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi, and plasma membrane of transfected COS-7 cells. In human tonsillar HEVECs, SLC26A11 was coexpressed with SLC26A2. Northern blot analysis detected a 2.9-kb transcript expressed at highest levels in placenta, kidney, and brain, with lower levels in pancreas, skeletal muscle, liver, lung, and heart.
