Solute Carrier Family 27, Member 6 (SLC27A6)

The deduced 619-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 70.1 kD. FATP6 expression in heart and much lower expression in placenta, testis, adrenal gland, kidney, bladder, and uterus. Western blot analysis of mouse tissues showed predominant expression in heart and much weaker expression in testis. No expression was detected in any other tissue examined. In situ hybridization of human heart and immunohistochemical analysis of rhesus monkey heart found FATP6 expressed in cardiac myocytes. Expression was almost exclusively on the sarcolemma in areas directly adjacent to the microvasculature. Expression was absent in areas of larger blood vessels, consistent with a role of FATP6 in the uptake of long chain fatty acids (LCFAs) from the interstitial space into cardiac myocytes.
