Solute Carrier Family 28, Member 3 (SLC28A3)

SLC28A3 contains relatively large extramembranous N and C termini linked by 13 transmembrane segments and short hydrophilic sequences. There are multiple sites for N-glycosylation grouped at the extracellular C terminus. SLC28A3 shares 48% and 47% amino acid identity with SLC28A1, and SLC28A2. Northern blot analysis detected a major transcript of 5.3 kb and secondary transcripts of 6.5 and 4.8 kb in pancreas, bone marrow, and trachea, but not in intestine, liver, brain, heart, and kidney. A multiple-tissue expression array detected highest expression in mammary gland, pancreas, bone marrow, and trachea, with substantial expression in various regions of the intestine and more modest expression in liver, lung, placenta, prostate, testis, and some regions of the brain and heart.
